My company is making an Augmented Reality iPhone Space Game [MMORPG]
(tp://www.Traveller-AR.com) (outdated link removed)

We're probably going to port it to iPad 2 (because of the nifty camera makes AR work well)...

but am also thinking about the Mac App Store. (porting to Mac).

2 questions:
1. is building for Mac Store as easy as targeting iPad with our iOS iPhone game?
2. any suggestions for how to deal with "no rear-facing camera" and/or augmented reality on a Mac App? (can I get GPS location, etc.).?

Can't answer to 1

2. Make sure to include code for a webcam and mention it would be required. As for gps, dunno, maybe take the ip addy and reference it like the wifi only iPads do to get a "close enough" location.

1. I recently saw a tool for converting iOS apps to OS X apps. There are differences in the framesworks used, UIView -> NSView for one instance. If I can find that information, I'll update this post.

2. I didn't even see this question when I thought, how would a AR app work on a computer likely to have only a front facing camera. So, does it even make sense for you app? That is something you need to figure out.

GPS info, if you can get it, would likely be exactly as accurate as an iPod touch. Macs don't have a GPS unit built in.

There was/is a third party that made a mirror for Macbooks that allowed the camera to point forward. Again, I don't recall who, so I'll update this post if I find that.

I love the mirror idea, and if you find the link for the framework translator that would be fantastic.

Yah, we have the IP Address->Location hack.. it's probably good enough for now.

What I was thinking about regarding a conversion framework was Chameleon (outdated link removed). When tracking that down, I also found UMEKit which might be useful too.

Here is a story on the mirror. I couldn't find a source. It may not be sold anymore.

I think you want to look into the CLLocation frameworks. It is for 10.6 and above though.
