Hi, I have a Power Mac G5 (Dual 2 GHz) with 3.5 GB RAM. Recently it starting going slow and freezing so I checked the memory: the two 1 GB chips are now recognized only as 512 MB... the other, smaller RAM chips read ok. So right now I have only 2.5 GB.
I tried to clean it and change the order, didn't help. What could have caused the problem and what can I do to fix it? Thank you

Is the ram installed correctly? Matched pairs...and in the correct slots?

Yes I believe so. They are matched.
From the bottom up: 256 MB (pos. 3), then 512 MB (pos. 2), and the 1GB (pos. 1). In the upper section I mirrored it: 1 GB (1), above it 512 MB (2), and the 256 MB (3.) Btw, originaly (2 hours ago) they were in opposite order: 256 GB in #1; 512 GB in #2; 1 GB in #3.

And are they genuine low density Mac compatible modules? High density PC memory will do exactly as you describe. PowerPC machines are very fussy about memory.
