Yet another problem....

OSX 10.6.6
Safari 5.0.3
Chrome (latest)

Lately, for some reason, any downloads I attempt to make from either Safari or Chrome don't complete. They get maybe half-way through and then finish.

I've done a clean install of the OS plus rebooted my router.

Any ideas?

Try emptying your browser caches and history. Sometimes that will impact on downloads if they're too full.

Could also be a problem with either your ISP or perhaps the modem and or router you're using.

I've also seen this happen with download accelerator add-ins.

I'm not using any download accelerators, nor speed download.

Browser caches and history frequently cleared.

It's only just started happening these past few days

Try resetting Safari, clear absolutely everything out then try again and see if the problem persists.

Open Safari then go to Safari > Reset Safari...

Hope this helps

I've tried that, also happens using Chrome.

However, and this may be crucial, the 315mb file I've tried to download several times ALWAYS 'finishes' at 137mb!!

Is it just this size of file that is acting like this, or have you tried to download other things and the same occurs?

I've tried various files, each will finish before it should, thereby rendering the file useless.

What is it and where is it from? Is it just this one file? It could just be that it's corrupted at source.

Well, things have progressed - to what extent regarding a solution I don't know.

I can't access (other than using a proxy server) Hotfile, Oron, Fileserve & Filesonic.

As I have a hotfile account I am using them as the preferred host. However, when I try and download any file from any source, it stope before completion.

I tried accessing a file from Rapidshare, and as I can access them without needing a proxy the file downloaded without a problem.

It doesn't take a Sherlock Homes to figure that my ISP is more than likely blocking the 'usual suspects', although why Rapidshare has escaped the net I don't know.

If my ISP is blocking Hotfile et al, then why does it allow the connection to the file take place and then suddenly drop after maybe half way?

Surely a block is a block.

But then it might be my paranoia telling me that my ISP is up to its nefarious deeds, or it might be something happening at my end which I'm struggling to fathom.

So, only torrent and/or P2P downloads are affected?

I think the issue is that your ISP may be blocking but I'd be surprised if they could see that closely.
Rapidshare, Hotfile etc are known for being used as sources for pirated material, as well as legal stuff of course too.

That's why I'm wondering if you can download from Apple's site or not. You'll be getting a clear picture it's your ISP or not.
