Apple releases security update for Panther
October 28, 2003 - 16:34 EST Apple today released Security Update 2003-10-28 via the Mac OS X Software Update preference pane. According to the company, the update addresses a potential vulnerability in the implementation of QuickTime Java in Mac OS X 10.3 Panther and Mac OS X Server 10.3 that could allow unauthorized access to a system.

I was going to say this was a "potential" problem. And is now no longer.

They fixed the problem before it was ever exploited.

I think that's by far better than what MS does.

Don't expect everything to be perfect out of the box people.

i personally think it was just a way to test out software update for panther users and get a report of how many people are on panther.. but maybe it was a potential problem

Well I did a Windows Update today, and actually read through all of the things that were supposedly fixed, and there were so many potential ways a hacker could get into my machine, it wasn't funny. I couldn't believe the stuff I was reading. So I guess Apple with their one update every once in a while is OK.

im not too worried about it. i mean i have had the OS installed for 3 full days and they discovered the problem already and fixed it thats fine by me
