Sure, it's cool technology. But I don't see a point to it. There aren't that many ports. We all know what a USB is. If your spending 1000 dollars on a computer, I'd sure hope you know what ports are what.

Sure, it's cool technology. But I don't see a point to it. There aren't that many ports. We all know what a USB is. If your spending 1000 dollars on a computer, I'd sure hope you know what ports are what.

Patents take multiple steps to eventually show what the patent's holder has envisioned for their true outcome, similar to this "smart port." I have a feeling that Apple is trying something that can show you the sign of whatever kind of device is connected, because they are possibly working on a new universal port connection. Universal Thunderbolt maybe? It's definitely possible, and something that the gov. would most definitely be interested in.
