They should pursue a dual strategy, windows phone and android, android would also cover there lower end phones. My last phone was a nokia, not a smartphone, but symbian is truly awful, don't even get me started on it's music player, and even as phone , it's only ok

I have had alot of Nokia phones in the past, only two I truly liked the 3310 (don't ask me why 
) and the Nokia N95, Symbian is awful and really needs a complete overhaul. At the moment i'm sporting the HTC Desire HD. I don't think i'll ever be going back to Nokia unless they do as you implied and start using other OS's.
