That will make no difference whatsoever, because you can still type torrent anyway.
It's just stopping auto fill or suggestion. Pointless!

And google is not the only search engine out there. The pirates will use another if Google gets too tricky.

Seems pointless indeed. As far as I know, pirates don't "google" torrents anyway... They just go to their favorite sites :/

Pirates have notoriously slow internet connections, being off the coast on those 18th century Schooners. I'm betting the instant search doesn't work well for them anyhow. You'd think the average pirate has more pressing matters than surfing the internet.

On a side note, I wonder if this will make it any harder to get a quick result if I Google for the closest "Long John Silvers" restaurant or if I want to find information about a certain Disney amusement park ride?

What if I want to research Henry Morgan?
If you don't know he was the most successful pirate in all of the Caribbean.

Well I don't think they're blocking keywords, at least not yet, because I just tried it lol

Seems like a waste to me as well, but I guess do what you have to do. I won't admit that I haven't pirated many, many things throughout my life(19 years lol) but actually in the last good year(since i go the ipad on launch day) I've been paying for all my applications and programs--it seems much more satisfying lol

Bet if you google the known blu ray sites they won't be banned either.
It's selectively mental.

Some of the bittorrent progams have their own search function... or so I have been told.

Limewire had it's own search function for the networks it used. And I'm sure the bittorrent apps can have a similar thing implemented very easily.

Vuze certainly does have that feature.

thing is there is also the debate that this is actually detrimental to the openly licensed media released through torrent sites too.

Since user will no longer see such keywords it will probably stop people from accidentally discovering the load of piracy related content on the web.
This is a ridiculous statement. It won't stop people because when people want to engage in acts of piracy, they know what they're looking for. Not having Google suggest sites isn't going to slow them down in the least.

Instituting a blanket restrictions on the word torrent is a terrible decision. Torrents are used legally as well - ask any Linux user (aside from myself - I hate getting my distros through torrents).

Yep you are right. Just checked them out

Vuze certainly does have that feature.

And so we have been told . . . . ;P

I think this will be a waste of resources and it wont make a dent in anything at all.

As others have said, pirates know what they are looking for and know where to hang out in a nice quiet and sunny Pirate Bay . . . .

Heard the fishing is good here lol

well, maybe it will stop people from actually becoming pirates... if they don't know what to look for, they wont accidentally stumble upon it...

but lets face it. they are gonna find it one way or another. just cause google aint finishing there sentences for them dont mean that they wont be able to do it.
