Mac Converter who wants to lay some beats down

I'm a recent Mac converter, who's a teaching sub by day, and dj by night. I've been looking at beat making software for my macbook pro, and was wondering if anyone had great suggestions for good applications for me to lay some beats down on.

Well if you have iLife installed you could start by looking at garage band.

logic or reason are good for making music.

and as robduckyworth said ableton live can be used for djing or making songs.
