I have just got a new ibook with Tiger.. is it better than OS9?

What are the advantages of going back to OS9? Speed obviously..
And a lot of software is OSX only, but I just use office and web.

What do you guys use?

You can't boot to OS 9 on a current model iBook. You can only use it to run OS 9 applications within OS X, I wouldn't even bother installing it unless you have some specific OS 9 application that you need to run.

The OS is sooo much more user-friendly :)

One advantage of going back to OS9 is a lot of grey.

i finally had to sell my old OS9 running powerbook G3 (233mhz) cuse they stoped updating programs like internet explorer windows media player ext. and you cant run itunes on OS9 or have any of the new good stuff avail for OSx. going back to OS9 is like going from windows XP to windows 95.

You see, I only use the web and office. I would use 95/98 instead of XP if they were stable. Does OS9 have stability problems? Or maybe memory management isnt as good as X? Things like that would stop me going back.

Compared to OS X, OS9 definitely has stability problems, left alone the lower compatibility with additional hardware. And memory management is a lot better in OS X too, which also is a stability factor.

OS9 is outdated, not faster than OS X (I have a Mac that's still bootable in OS9, and I played around with it a lot).

Really, you don't need to bother to go back to OS9, which, in your case, would mean buying another, older Mac.
Current models are not able to boot in OS9, so all you can do is run it in Classic mode in OS X, which is not the same.

You definantly need more than 256mb ram with OS X.

OS 9 is a really great OS the problem is the software for it is limited. like trying to connect to printers and just basic media players are almost none existent for OS9. but you will be much happier with OSX. For me i could always crash OS9 easily but i have yet to do so on OSX.
