This is what I am thinking about now. And it's best described in pictures and a few little facts.

1. Area size of 2-3x Texas (my best guess) is flooded in Queensland (pretty much the entire state). Some places under over 10 metres of water (measured as in how much the rivers broke their banks by).
2. Some places had a flood. Lost everything. And 2 weeks later the water soaked ruins were flooded again. Some worse the 2nd time around.
3. My little area near the state capital. I'm 30km west of it. Well that whole area where I am is not flooded yet but is on the extreme flood warning list for this week.

And here is some pictures of it. The pictures are just a small glimpse of the disaster. Just letting you all know where my thoughts and prayers are this week.

My best wishes. We went through a bad one where I use to live in 1993. No fun...

I was working for FEMA (electronic tech and computer repair) at the time and remember seeing that. It was called a "100 year flood". Major disasters like that have an impact for years on the area and especially those folks who lost everything.

I can imagine that the floods in Queensland, Australia will have an even greater impact considering how large and widespread they are.

Few people realize here in the US that flood damage (rising water) insurance is only sold by the US government and is not covered by any home owner's insurance policy.

I had my home flooded out once (I was at school so I didn't experience it first hand) but the damage inside the basement was just brutal. Best of luck to anyone here who has family in the affected area or is there themselves.

We had a so called one in 100 year flood 2 years ago. And we got over that. And now it's back and even worse.

And I agree be them here or anywhere in the world we don't wish this kind of disaster on anyone.

UPDATE !!!!!!!

As i sit here posting this, the8thark is now under water. Brisbane river has broken the banks and they have said it will peak earlier than 1st thought.

The inland tsunami had a 8mtr wall of water and is now going to inundate 7000+ homes.
10 confirmed dead and still 78 people missing 70% are children. And its not only people affected. nearly 80% of the state is under water . . . .

Agree Kev. Im in the same Country and cant do a thing. Its starting to affect the southern states too as the main Dam in Brisbane was made after the '74' floods to stop it happening again. That dam is at 190% capacity and they have been control releasing water for the last 6 days. Where does all that water go. Through Brisbane and then south.
My radar shows 7 days rain and im in Canberra. Work has stopped bc of it and i cant do anything.

Its the biggest tragedy i have seen in my 38yrs on this planet ..... phenomenal

the8thark might have to start building that ark of his bc the big man upstairs isnt helping .....

At the moment the Damage bill is expected to hit at a minimum $12 Billion

Sad to say, but this is Australia's Katrina.
I can't imagine the despair it causes, but I have friends who survived Katrina and all it brought. Let's hope I can say the same about this.

Wow, hard to get a picture how hard this must be even with pictures.
I read on wikipeadia that the leading industry is tourism, so that will have a gigantic blow on the state. :(

Hope all goes well and gets better soon.

It's insane, now it's flooding in my state (victoria)

Look at those animals holding onto barbed wire just to stay alive. The water is nearly at the tops of those palm trees.

The fall out from this is going to be phenomenal.

I'm in NSW... had the TV going almost all day for the last 2 days watching it escalate. It's horrific. I wish I could help but I'm unemployed so I can't donate and from what I can gather you can't just join the SES or anything overnight (fair enough). I might head up during the clean up or something...
