getting external harddrives to not appear on desktop?

I have an external partitioned into 6 parts, so all 6 show up on my desktop. Can I get them to appear within a single folder which I want to add to my desktop, rather than appearing on the desktop itself?

In the main menu bar, make sure you're in Finder then click on Preferences. As far as shortcuts go, you can always make those in a folder as you want.
