So, I burned a backup of my iTunes library when I thought I was moving from one windows machine to another. I was surprised with an order slip for an iMac instead. :D Will the new iMac read that backup created on the PC? The iMac hasn't shipped yet and I'm a bit nervous about that one thing. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the data files for playlists etc are in the same format on both machines so it should be absolutely fine.

Welcome to Mac- Forums
Also nice one on the the iMac, I would love to get a surprise order slip for one lol
I am 99% sure that the files that store the itunes data are in the exact same format on both machines so you should be absolutely fine.

Thank you

Thanks! I had already moved my daughter into my alienware thinking that DH had not been sold on me trying a Mac. Seeing the order slip made me a very happy camper until I thought of my library in limbo.

Now to get back to checking my order status 100 times a day... O:)

Just an update for future users: My DVD backups (I had several) were not importable into iTunes. It kept giving me a message saying that the discs were corrupt, but they worked fine on Windows PCs. So while I could copy most of my files off of said discs with Finder, my iPad did not recognize it as the same library and wiped itself. Apple took care of some purchases I had made on my iPad between the death of my PC and the arrival of the iMac (yay!), but it has still been a pain. It may be a better bet to backup the library using an external HDD if you are switching from PC to Mac.
