Anti-virus and Spyware

As I was just about to walk out of the Apple store yesterdaywith new notebook in hand, I mentioned to the sales guy that I forgot to get an Anti-virus\ firewall and spyware software. He just looked at me and said,,,Sir you own a Mac now, don't worry anymore.
Now keep in mind he was suggesting every possible add on product you could think of as I was buying my notebook, so why would he note even begin to suggest add on software unless it really is true that I don't need either protection.
What do you guys think??? I feel a little naked surfing the web like this..

It's true - for the moment.

There are no known Mac OS X virii in the wild, and Mac OS is currently immune to spyware.

This might change in a few years, who knows. But for now?

You're absolutely worry-free, ne?

It is true. Currently there are no viruses for Mac OS X, and there haven't been any for it since its release almost five years ago.
