iMac 5K Retina 27" 2017, macOS 11.3.1 Big Sur, iPhone 7Plus, iPad Pro, Apple tv4, iPodT6
When updating from 2.2.0 to 2.2.1, is it necessary/recommended to uninstall 2.2.0 first by dragging the application icon to the the Trash?

No just drag it to the Applications folder. It will recognize one is there already and ask if you want to replace it - you do.
