You will need to convert the movie to a useful format. I would recommend Squared 5 - MPEG Streamclip video converter for Mac OS X unless you can find a copy of VisualHub (sadly no longer in active development).
If the video was burned as a data DVD you should be able to convert the video into something useful using MPRG Streamclip. If the video was burned to play in a set top DVD player the video file will be in a series of .vob files. Here's an overview of the process I used, Streamclip is a newer version now but the process is the same and in this case it does not matter that the files were burned from a Tivo. In the article I used DV format to get the footage into iMove but Streamckip will also handle saving the files in several other formats.

In addition to Sylvester's excellent advice, bear in mind that YouTube videos cannot be longer than 10 minutes (though I suppose you can post a longer video in 10-min "parts").

If you are not planning on editing the content, then Handbrake might be the easiest choice.

You're right. I never think of Handbrake as an option for this. If the video doesn't need editing that's probably easier than what I described.
