43% Of Brits Would Save Computer or Phone Before Pet : Shiny Shiny

A recent study by My Voucher Codes, found that in the event of a house fire, 43% of Brits would save either their computer or mobile phone before the family pet.

We obviously love our gadgets, but could never imagine putting our computers before our pets.

The study polled 1,219 pet owners in the UK and asked them the multiple-choice question 'In the event of a house fire, what would be the first thing you would save?'

For most of us our laptops holds all of our 'valuable information' from photos and videos, to important paper work, so we understand why people would grab their laptops first, but maybe these people shouldn't own pets.

According to their results, below are the top 10 things Brits would save in a fire.

1. Laptop/Computer -24%
2. Mobile phone - 18%
3. Family pet - 14%
4. Games console - 12%
5. Clothing - 9%
6. Wallet/purse - 8%
7. Jewellery - 6%
8. Photo albums - 4%
9. iPod/MP3 player - 3%
10. Camera - 2%

A 2nd shirt would be nice you know. So I don't have to be shirtless in the laundromat if the premises was in burnt down. Some people just don't like walking around naked while their only set of clothes is in the wash. So it's a sensible idea.

And shocked me was photographs were not mentioned on the list. Either people don't care much for them anymore or they store them all on the computer.

Aww, this is sad. :| I think I'd feel more sad about losing my two cats than saving electronics in the end.

If I would happen to be living with some annoying relatives that I didn't care for, you might find me saving the pets first though.

Too many...
Regardless of who did the polling, people still got polled, and these were the results. With that said, this disgusts me! I don't have anything as valuable(I have a lot of stuff!) as my golden mix, and we actually adopted him!

I love my Benji!

Some folks have a strange sense of priority. Winnie and Monty would be disappointed I believe. Oh wait, Winnie is a myth...

It seems kind of strange that none of the Britts polled would save their FAMILY!

Family first pets second and I have insurance for everything else.

^^This. After my GF and dog are secured I'd try to grab as much as I could carry, but in the end I have insurance for everything else.

Can pet insurance get my pet back from the dead? If not, what's the up side?

Can life insurance bring your loved one back from the dead? No. But likewise people still take out these kind of insurances.

I realize they are available for people and that consumers purchase them. I ask again, in the context of the topic, whats the up side of pet insurance as it applies to deciding whether to save your pet or your laptop in a house fire?

It's the same as notebook insurance. The pet is irreplaceable just like some of the data on our computers. That special photo or your work documents or maybe something else. Simply put data, that if it was lost would be irreplaceable and make a lot of people rather sad. Just as sad as if they lost a loved pet.

So to answer your question, their is no upside to pet insurance or notebook insurance. It's only there to give you a little financial comfort in the eventuality that you could not save your pet or notebook from the fire. So pretty much a small comfort in someone's time of great loss and sadness. Be it notebook or pet.

It seems a pet is more replaceable to some people then your computer data. Hence is why people race to save their computers before their pets.

1. Corgi dog.

2. Wife. As reported last year, the Corgi is pedigreed Australian Champion, my wife is not!

Computer comes a long, long way down the list.
