I have the 1TB drive which came installed in my iMac as a single partition. Is there any pros / cons to repartitioning the drive to have an "OS/Application" volume and a separate data volume?

The only advantage I could think of is that you could potentially make it easier to maintain the recommended 20% free space on the System partition. Basically the OS partition would stay fairly static, so it wouldn't be so easy to have it fill up inadvertently. But quite honestly, I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble.

Can't really see the point in doing it. Only reasons for partitioning would be under wanting to use boot camp or other such software.

When I bought my Mini, the Apple Genius at the Store said it's not necessary to partition in OSX. Now, I can't tell you why it was a good idea in OS9 because I don't remember!

Broadly speaking, unless you have a clear, specific reasons to repartition, it's not necessary and doesn't really help anything.
