Nielsen: 31 percent of kids want an iPad, other stuff -- Engadget

It was a good article until you get to the part where the author tries desperately to downplay the survey results.

"Also, it turns out that the iPad was the only tablet PC available, so it could well ave served as a proxy vote for other slates -- Galaxy Tab, anyone?"

I mean....really? Stretch, anyone? If he reaches any more he's going to dislocate his arm.

What happened to wanting a bicycle?

I remember wanting one of those leopard skin banana seat stingrays so bad I could taste it.

Had a Schwinn Lemon Peeler if anyone here remembers those things and was
very proud of it wish I had it for resale now. This generation of kids are about
gadgets and maybe thats a good thing could spark a lot of innovation hopefully.

Just because 31% of kids want one, doesn't mean that they are going to get one. :p

I read somewhere that about 11% of shoppers are going to be purchasing an iPad for the holidays, which seems like a modest figure I guess.

Well, 30+ years ago, there really wasn't anything else to want

I'm only young, but what the heck is a billy cart?

They were way before my time. But they were those racers you used to build in your parents garage. The ones without an engine. You'd git in and race your friends down the hills. Pretty much just using gravity and steering.

Wal-mart has the iPad now, and the other day while walking past the display two teenage girls were attempting to get their mother to buy them one for Christmas. It may me stop and think; this is the new "Shiny Penny" the kids of my era were looking for.

30 years ago was 1980. My dad bought us Magnavox' Pong in 1974 -- we were the
B O M B in the neighborhood that Christmas.
