Following replacement of my first i-Mac, I have the old hard drive available as an external drive.

It had Windows with Bootcamp to enable me to operate Mac incompatible hardware & software.

Is there a way to access the Windows operating system on the old drive without having to install it on the new Mac's drive?

There are two reasons for wanting to do this. One is that the serial number on the Windows OS was specific to the previous Mac so I'll have to acquire new serial nos.

The second is that it means taking up space on the new Mac's hard drive.

If you're asking if you will be able to boot into Windows from the installation sitting on the old drive - no.

If you're asking if you can access the data on the Windows partition (and assuming here it was formatted as NTFS) then OS X can read from that drive natively without doing anything, just not write to it.
