Just rebooted from Win XP to Mac OSX and iphoto app icon has gone, replaced by a grey question mark. It's not in the bin, it seems to have disappeared.
Where did it go? Why did it go?
How can I get it back?
Will I ever see the smiling faces of my children again on those holiday photos I carefully sorted by place and date?

Is it still on your computer?

Can you see it in Finder?

What happens when you click on the question mark?

If clicking on the icon does nothing, delete it. If you can see it in finder, drag it from finder to the dock.

Agreed with Printerman. Also check the Applications folder. Is iPhoto there?

Also was iPhoto there before you rebooted into Windows? You don't have MacDrive installed on Windows that allows you to access the OSX partitions in Windows by chance?

nope - it's gone from finder and the apps folder - that's where i looked first. I've reinstalled from the application install DVD but have no idea how it got removed - I don't have macdrive installed on windows XP, i just use bootcamp.

Hmmm.

Good that you reinstalled, now to figure out how it got deleted.

Did anybody else use your computer?

Are all your photos intact I hope? Do let us know that. I would freak if all my pics were gone for sure.

As far as why it was gone, Not sure. That is why I asked about Windows and Mac Drive.

Printerman, good question. I should have asked that! :D

no-one else has been on it, since wife and kids were away for last 3 days. All the pics are intact, as far as i can tell, and it all seems back to normal again. A bit worrying though.
Only thing I can think of is having run a Clean-my-Mac sweep a bit earlier, but i cannot recall if iphoto was still there beforehand or not.

I’m gonna call that the suspect.

Believe it or not, you don’t need that kind of software!

Unless you really want it, or have paid a good amount of money, I’d recommend deleting it.

Of course you would have seen your pictures again - there are in your backup. Or at least I hope they are from now on.
