Private browsing was a feature in Leopard,I now have Snow Leopard and I don't see that anymore. Has it been discontinued?

I'll "assume" you mean in Safari - still there in the Safari menu.

You can get in on Google Chrome too (my choice) open google chrome and hold cmd+shift+n for "incognito"

It's there in every browser: Safari has private browsing, Chrome has Incognito mode, Opera has private windows and tabs (why has no other browser maker developed tab based private browsing?) and Firefox has private browsing.

Thanks to all, I must have overlooked it in Safari.

Opera has private windows and tabs (why has no other browser maker developed tab based private browsing?) and Firefox has private browsing.

Does that mean you can have private browsing on in some tabs in a window but off in others at the same time? If so, I might have to take another look at Opera.

I recently tried Opera (again) and while it's getting better, IMO, it's still not ready for prime time. I was a die hard Opera user for years in Windows, and even paid for it when it was not free, however, I've been disappointed with it lately. Might be just me since others seem to like it. :\

Chrome has private windows, which I actually prefer over private tabs. Easier to keep track of what is in private mode and what's not.

Absolutely. You can have a window open with multiple tabs - some private, some not.

You can have private windows as well which, like Chrome, are a different colour so they're easier to differentiate. As for the private tabs, the favicon in the tab does not change when you're browsing in private "mode" so you always see the "private favicon" (see attached). It would be nice if it was more noticeable (different coloured tabs perhaps) but you can still tell.
