Have both OS9 & 10.4 on G4 which was extremely sluggish. Took it to MacSpecialists (IL). Did a diagnosis ($75). Said the startup drive was failing, needed a new HD. Bought a 3.5", 150GB Seagate. They moved all my files to the new drive ($124). Now, OS9 doesn't boot. Got a 9.2.2 disc and tried to start from the disc with C key held down. Everything appeared to load, but once the blue filler bar was complete, the screen (VGA) went black, no matter how long I waited. Then restarted in 10.4, opened the 9.2.2 disc and dragged the system folder onto the HD. When done, I tried to drag my OS9 creative application files (Illustrator 7, Photoshop 8, etc.) to the OS9 Applications folder. Alert panel opened saying the Applications folder couldn't be modified. However, there was an Authenticate button in the panel. Clicked it but nothing happened. Just can't get OS9 to open while in 10.4. Plus the screen is still black when I try to open OS9 from the 9.2.2 disc. Any suggestions are appreciated. The problems didn't exist before I took it in.

I don't know the specifics of your computing situation & requirements...but spending almost $200 on things that you could do yourself (very easy on a Powermac G4) by doing some research first...and on a computer that's probably worth between $30 & $75...seems a bit outrageous.

Of course if you have lots of money...which I guess then would make it ok.;)

Your situation is a lot more complicated than you may think!!! #1 on the list is we have absolutely no idea what the folks at "MacSpecialists" did to your computer & how they prepared your hard drive before transferring your files & apps.

Have you tried going back to MacSpecialists to have them fix things...since you paid them a lot of money...and things aren't working?

Sounds like the OS9 drivers are messed up on the partition. When you create a dual boot HD theres an option on the OSX installer to install OS9 formating drivers. Dragging a system folder will not install the full system as the OS installer has to bless the system folder for it to boot.
