Having suffered a Mac crash a few days after my Time Machine external HD failed, I decided to buy 2 1TB HDs called Time Machines 1 & 2.

What I hadn't realised was that, when switching from 1 to 2, it's necessary to make 2 the Time Macind for that day by going to Time Machine in System Preferences.

I don't suppose many of you are as paranoid as I am about backing up stuff but this info may be useful to someone or one of the experts may have further advice to give.

I'm pleased to say that my original drive was undamaged so that, after a 2 month interval, I think that I've now recovered quite a lot of the missing data including e-mails.

I have modified the title to make it easier for those looking to find it. This is not a warning about some malfunction, but the way to set up Time Machine for making multiple backups.

That also wouldn't be necessary if both drives have the same name and they are never connected simultaneously.

Thanks. I hadn't intended it to look like there was a malfunction.

Just a heads up, wanted to let you know why I modified it. When creating a new thread about a solution to an issue you've been working on, it's a good idea to try and come up with a title that others might be using to search for the solution to the same issue. Otherwise, it just gets buried in the vast quantity of stuff out there on the web.
