How do I get my mouse pointer to display text when hovering over a graphic?

One of my favorite webs sites is airliner.net, and in order to view text associated with the picture, I must enlarge the thumbnail.

This on my iMAC and Macbook.

Thanks.

I just went to airliner.net with both Chrome and Safari -> I get the text when hovering over the graphic in both programs. What web browser are you using?

Hmmm ... should have mentioned that I use Firefox.

I think it's something with a mouse setting as it doesn't work using Safari. Never tried chrome.

Hi there,
I've just visited that site, using Firefox 3.6.11 and hovering over pictures gives me the text.

Have you tried clearing your history and cookies, etc in case you are loading a "cached" page?

Safari 5, no issues. I pass the mouse over the picture, pause, there's the caption.

Are you by chance running anything that turns off the "tool tips" function? It looks like FF uses the same type of window typically used for tool tips.

Not sure what you mean. What is "FF"?

OK. I was thinking FF was some kind of command. Rereading your post I can more clearly understand it. Certainly, my bad.

I went to the FF preferences and couldn't find anything relevant or at least nothing obvious to me. Suggestions?

Hmmm. Dallas Texas? Ranger fan? Watched your team club the Yanks.

When you say mouse setting - do you have some 3rd party mouse? I know Logitech has a full install for controlling their mice. If it isn't working in Firefox or Safari then I would tend to agree with you - it's probably some other application that is interfering with your text.

Can you create another user and then try?

I use the Apple Magic mouse. However, I also have a Microsoft usb cable mouse hooked up for use when I boot into Windows. This OS is required to connect to my office machine and the magic mouse doesn't work when Windows is in use.

I disconnected the Microsoft mouse and no difference.

I'll try another user shortly and see what transpires.

Thanks.

It's possible that tooltips are disabled in Firefox (tooltips are the yellow boxes with text). Here is how to check:

1. Go to the URL about:config (that is a special URL in FF).
2. In the search box labelled "Filter", type browser.chrome.toolbar_tips.
3. If it says false, they are disabled. Double click it to enable it.

Trying another user is a good idea. Actually, When I mentioned tool tips I wasn't thinking so much about a mouse conflict as whether some third party software had turned off tool tips. Onyx, for example, has a feature that prevents url from appearing in Safari's tool tips.

FWIW, a new user account has the same issue, and this was with Safari.

As suggested and the value is True. Left it as is.

One other thing. I booted into Windows XP using Boot Camp. The mouse over worked ok using Internet Explorer 6, but did not work properly using FireFox. As I said this was in Windows.

Not sure if this information is of value or not.
