. . . password protect as specific group of files or a folder?
If not, is there an app for such actions?

Hmm...

I think you can create an encrypted .dmg in Disk Utility?

Perhaps one of the more experienced folk can elaborate.

That's the best way.

You might find other apps on Versiontracker that do the same...but then you'll be dependent on that app to get at your files.

The real question is, why do you need to do this? OS X has multiple user accounts for exactly this reason. Why protect only some of your files?

its basically BSD. i swear i remember a way in one of the linux distros to PW lock files and folders....im almost sure of it because thatd result in a format and a new distro lol

Just go to Apps>Utilities>Disk Utility and create a new Disk Utility...
Somewhere you should have an option of encrypting it...
Whenever you try to open it, it'll ask you for a pw.

lol
No such files exist. I'm the sole computer user in the house. lol. Sometimes I let my nephews use my MAC (and i have work files all over the place) I just can't afford to have anyone changing anything, whether it be deleting, viewing or modifying

just make them a user account with your own set limitations if there are files everywhere ad all over the place.

Exactly. OS X is a multiuser operating system...why have multiple users on a multiuser system and only one account?
