• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

If I wanted to get video from a source using the three-colored cables (yellow, white, red), which would be the best capture device for me?

My budget is about $100.

I have heard good and bad things about Pinnacle, can I get the .mp4 files into iMovie and correct any misaligned audio?

At first I thought you were talking about component video connectors, but those are typically red, blue and green. Your color description suggests composite video with stereo audio.

Perhaps the Elgato Video Capture device would suite you. I have an EyeTV from Elgato and like it and their software.

Pinnacle may be fine for Windows users, but they seem to have had issues with Macs. Don't know if is has gotten any better.

Just to note, the Blackmagic Design Video Recorder can handle the component video.

I don't know.

If you are thinking about capturing HD, that doesn't seem possible as the specs only mention SD. Also keep in mind that these devices respect copy protection schemes.
