Hi everyone!

Guys, I am wondering if it is possible at all to create a custom shortcut for creating a new TextEdit document? So for example, TextEdit is not switched on, but all of the sudden I need a new text document to quickly make a note of something, is there a way to press any combination of keys to create a new document?

I know that I can create a new TextEdit document by pressing Cmd+N while in TextEdit, but this is not what I am looking for :)

I hope that my question makes sense. Sorry for my English (it's not my mother language).

Any information or advice will be highly appreciated. And thank you all in advance.

You can assign the "New TextEdit Window Containing Selection" service a keyboard shortcut and use that.
The only minus I see in that is that some kind of text has to be selected for it to work.

If you want to try it,
Open the system preferences and go to the Keyboard pane.
Then click on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab and click on Services in the sidebar.
Find "New TextEdit Window Containing Selection" in the list under the text category and assign it a shortcut. (Click on it near the right end of the blue selection.)

Not quite what you're looking for, but you could add TextEdit to the dock. One click to open it up.

And just drag text to the dock icon to open a new document with that text.

Or just bypass TextEdit alltogether and drag text to the Desktop or a folder.

I agree and like this method very much. It's also the simplest. I also use this method for taking quick notes during lectures.

This is my suggestion as well. Works especially well for quick notes from the Web.
