I would like to be able to read text (e.g., PDF articles) on my new 27" iMac from a distance using the Apple Remote.

However, it seems the remote only works with Preview, and Preview does not seem to offer this?

Is there another way of doing this?

Thanks,

Ted

Preview opens PDF files for me. What options come up when you click on a PDF?

Thanks, you are right, but I guess what I've been controlling with the remote is Frontrow, which won't show PDFs. Preview does, as you point out, but I can't use my remote with it, as far as I know.

That's correct. Your remote will work with applications like iTunes, but not as far as I know, not for Preview, Textedit, etc.
