My PC used to have "Note Pad" which functioned like a simple word processor. I could even print out an informal letter if needed with a few functions avail. Does my new iMac have this? Where?

You can use Text Edit which is a default program.

You could also download Bean and Open Office. Both are good free programs. Bean is a basic word processing program and Open Office is a free alternative to Microsoft Office.

I have Open Office and it is great. Try it.

OpenOffice does not meet the criteria of "quick simple fast note pad" by any stretch of the imagination. Try actually reading the subject line next time.

In addition to TextEdit and Bean (both excellent suggestions), you might also seek out XPad, or even just use the Stickies app that came with your machine. All these suggestions are free, btw.
