When I send an xcel file as an attachment using Mac e-mail, it converts it to a .dat file. When I go to my sent mail to verify what I sent, my mac can't even open that file.

I have found if I move the xcel file to the e-mail rather than attach it, it stays in my send box as an xcel file (which I can open) but is received as a .dat file. Anyone know what do do?

I have the "append file extension" box checked in the save file menu. Found the thread below but no apparent answer...http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/windows-classic-linux-other-os/81411-sending-files-mac-pc-dat-format-help.html

Try zipping it first. Right-click on it and select archive/compress (depending on your system), then attach it.

Try it with a different e-mail "client". Use a free web-based one if you don't have another option. If it works with the other e-mail, then there's something wrong with your settings in Apple's Mail.
