OK, I just had a quick power outage (about 1-2 mins) where my computer did not gracefully shutdown. Once I got back online, I'm just about to order a Belkin 650VA Regulator Pro UPS Battery Backup so I don't have to worry about this again.

Here is my question. Now that my system is back up, is there any maintenace I need to perform on the system? Not sure if something like this screws the FS up a little or whatever. My HDD is formated with the default JFS Extended.

Thanks,
Ray

That is one of the benefits of a journal file system. You don't get as much file corrupt due to a system crash or power outage.

How does a "journal file system" work? I'm just curious as I've never before heard the term.

I've got an APC UPS for my G5 and I'm loving it!

That's good to know. I just plugged in my new APC Back-UPS ES 500 and installed the latest version of PowerChute. I'm letting it charge now and will test it tonight after the battery is 100%.

Thanks,
Ray

Good luck, the only think i have not liked about battary backups is that if you overload them to often, the battary live is seriously deceased.

After every software update, and about every 2 weeks: close all apps and log totally off. Log on, go in Finder, Applications. Utilities, Disk Utility. After the message -getting disk information- select volume (below the hard drive name -upper left corner). Just highlight it. Now look to the lower two things are there near the middle, verify permissions, repair permissions. Click repair permissions
