OKay, Im really stumped by this problem. I am trying to import video off my camcorder via firewire. I'm trying to import using FCP I have imported this tape previously with Imovie and it imported fine. Problem is that when I try to import the video it stays in the black screen waiting for the timecodes. Its like the tape has no timecodes at all. I thought all video had timecodes. I have tried using the capture now feature. Still no luck. Nothing works. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :yinyang:

If you have read the data in using iMovie. Then use the iMovie data and import it in to Final Cut.

Yea, but it should work without me having to use two applications. Reason I'm doing it is because I made a video and imported it using Imovie. I then transferred it to Idvd once I was finished. I tried burning it onto DVD more than 5 times trying different things and everytime I would get unexpectedly quit error. I have used Idvd and Imovie for a long time with no problems. I took the file and tried converting it using FCP into a DVD ready format so I can burn it using Toast. Then FCP would unexpectedly quit. So I'm guessing somewhere along the line I must have corrupted the video. I was going to try and re-import it. This time just using FCP but then I ran into this problem. It seems like the tape has no timecodes and therefore FCP is not picking it up so wont start importing. Is there anyway around this?

I am not very confortable with Final Cut Pro. I have had many problems with getting my video clips into Final Cut. So I have been working with iMovie. I plan to start working with Final Cut, when I get my new system.

it has been a while, but i believe that you can make a DVD movie using the iMovie data and toast. I started out that way, before I started using iDVD.

Yea, I'm sure it could be done. I just don't understand how Imovie being the basic editing software can do something that FCP the more high end software can't do. It's mind boggling. For the price it should do everything without a problem especially something as important as importing video. I have gotten it to work with certain video tapes. Sometimes I get a video tape that has no timecodes and then FCP has a problem. I don't know maybe I will give it another shot this weekend using Imovie again. After I imported it I moved the file around a bit so maybe it got corrupted.

It was a 20gig file.

Yup, problem is the importing process wont ever even begin. It's like since the tape appears to have no timecode then FCP acts as if I never started the tape and just sits there waiting for the first tick of a timecode to start. I thought all tapes had timecodes though.

That the problem I have with Final Cut is the time codes. I know there is a way to fix a broken time code, but I don't know how to do it.

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this issue? Some of my tapes have this problem...some of them dont.
