• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

has anyone on this forum used either a sony hdr-550v, jvc GZ-HM1, or a canon HF s21 camcorders with their imac? i am currently using a 2 and 1/2 year old iMac with dual core 2,4 GZ and 2 GB ram 667mhz along with iMovie '08. i currently have a 5 year old minidv that has worked flawlessly with my current setup. i want to buy an HD flash memory camera and basically want to get a better quality of dvd's to send to family and friends. i've eliminated the Panny tm 700 as it seems to have way too many problems for downloading and video editing. my backup plan is to use my Win7 64 bit i7-860 with nvidia gtx 260 video card with 1 GB ram which i just purchased for my work. however, i'd love to stick with my mac since i've learned how to do my projects on it and i'm familiar with it. going to a new system with new video/photo editing software seems a bit daunting. any and all opinions/recommendations would be most appreciated. thanks.

I can't help you much with the camera suggestions beyond pointing you to this list.

However, I highly recommend you move up to iMovie 09 (iLife 09) for $79 (maybe less via Amazon or Ebay). The improvements in iMovie ALONE make it well worth the money.
