You can not install Windows 7 over XP, it must be a clean install. There are several reasons why:

1. XP installations that are on FAT-32 volumes, Windows 7 can only be installed to a NTFS formatted volume. 2. Boot sector structure is different.

Having said that, follow the instructions from this LINK to do the install and preserve data.

However, after reading over the procedure you may decide to do a complete clean install - which is actually what I recommend anyway.

Regards.

I agree - simplest would be to delete the existing Boot Camp partition and do a clean Win7 install. You can back up all of your data and program files onto an external drive to reduce the pain, but that will definitely be simplest.
