Getting back to desktop while playing CS?

I just got Counter-Strike for my MacBook Pro, and am very happy with it... Old habits die hard.

However, I'd like to be able to switch back to my desktop while the game is playing (for those not familiar there are times when you've been killed in the game and wait for the round to end), and am unsure how to do this on Mac. On my PC, I'd just press the windows button, but my MacBook doesn't seem to have the Apple button described in other threads.

How do I get back to my desktop while leaving the game in play?

Command-tab should work. Same as alt-tab a pc, but on a mac it should switch you to the desktop if there aren't other applications running as well.
