New Mac mail recieves but won't send

my mac mail wont send. I have set it up the same as my PC. Not sure though if I should use the SSL or not. Tried it both ways no worky.Now I have the SSL on on both as its recieving so I figure the send should have it on as well ? I tried setting up another mail acct and it worked but when I deleted it and went back to the main one I set up , I cannot seem to make it go. i had a fellow download all my mail so i don't want to delete the main as I dont know if I will lose all my inbox and folders too ? There are 2 mailboxes on the left window though that say inbox, the one is the imported set of files. I think there's some confusion between the two but the imported one does not let me edit ??

what error message do you get when you send an email ?

This is just a shot in the dark, but have you got your SMTP set up correctly.
