I just installed a memory monitoring widget and it shows that 81 percent of my memory is being used. Is this normal? Are there anythings I can turn off? I currently have 512mb.

Open up activity monitor to see what is using up your memory. (apps->utilities)
Widgets also use up a surprising amount of memory so I'd shut any you don't really need...

Do you have a problem with used memory?

The best system is one that uses all of it's memory, CPU cycles and I/O bandwidth at all times, after all you want to get your moneys worth don't you?

Like Amen-Moses stated you want to be using your memory and not the hard disk as memory (swap space).
