Retrieve contacts and apps from iTunes

My 3GS was dropped and run over about 2 weeks ago - completely obliterated - heinous. Luckily I have the iPhone 4 on preorder. My question: will I be able to retrieve all of my contacts and apps from iTunes with my new phone? Thanks in advance.

You should have no problem syncing your new phone to the content you had on your old phone.

When you connect the new phone iTunes will recognize it's a different phone and ask if you want to restore your backup to the new phone. That's what mine did when I went from a 1st gen to my 3GS and that's what it should do when I get my 4 Thursday.
