renaming a desktop icon

2.8 GHz 15" MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.x & some old Macs
Some icons you can't rename but I believe most you can. Just click on the icon once to highlight it and then click once again on the name area. It should let you change the name.

You can also do the same thing if you right-click the icon and choose get info and then down in the name section you can also change it there.

What are you trying to rename? Perhaps someone will know if it's one that won't allow you to change its name.
