I personally, would love to see some formalized addition to the rules regarding:
-doing away with "Feeler" threads in the Buy/Sell/Trade section. Completely.
or, barring that
-doing away with no price listed in a post.
-on a "for trade only" post, require some sort of declared value for an item
-removal of these threads if, after a warning, the seller does not post some sort of value
Additionally:
-"I'll take it followed by a PM with contact information get's it" rules apply
Intent: it wastes a lot of time when people post items for sale, when they are not even sure they want to sell, or for how much. Messages back and forth, endless replies to the initial post regarding what everyone suggests a value would be, etc... don't really help anyone when there's no real process behind the seller's post. I would suggest that Mac-Forums is not an appraisal service for one's selling activities. I would also suggest that "Feeler" threads aren't really a post to buy, sell or trade - they are posts to ascertain value before deciding to buy, sell or trade. That's a decision that should have occurred log before one posts an item for sale in a public place. Posting a value, even for trades, at the very least allows folks to see what the perceived value of various items are over time, which benefits everyone in the long run. It also let's prospective buyers know whether or not a posted item is even worth their personal particular inquiry. If you post that you want $1500 for your 2006 MacBook, I'll know to keep moving along and save both of us a ton of messaging and maybe some hard feelings. On the flip side, if I get all teary-eyed thinking of my 2006 MacBook that I never should have sold, and I feel that $1500 is a raging bargain, it sells quicker and everyone is happy. No price means nobody knows what they want to do.
I also suggest the "I'll take it followed by a PM with contact information get's it" for accountability's sake. It keeps things orderly, and when someone post's they will take it, there is some accountability on both parts. It's frustrating as a buyer when you post you want to buy something and never hear back from the seller - then someone else winds up with the goods a while after you said you would take it. On the flip side, it's frustrating as a seller when someone says they will take it, and never contacts you - then everyone thinks it's sold and no one else tries to contact you. Keeping that stuff semi-public lets everyone one know who is serious and who to look out for. There is accountability there, and everyone who is interested in an item knows the status. It's harder to play one buyer against another this way. Just some thoughts...
