Mail not opening...

Greetings

I have a 17" iMac running Tiger and over the last couple of months, whenever I click the dock icon to start Mail, all I get is the first screen but no emails are displayed.

There is a nice spinning beachball however.

I have to Force Quit and it will take two or three attempts to launch the program successfully.

Any ideas what I can do to overcome this problem?

The icon in the Dock is only an alias. Try dragging it off the Dock and it should vanish in a cloud of smoke, go into Applications Folder and drag the Mail icon to the Dock and this should place a nice new alias there. If problems persist, Repair Permissions under Disk Utility.
