That is kinda cool, my college was talking about something similar to this. We currently use my scribe for our online books and they were looking at an app or changing the format of the online books so that they could be used on the iPad

i always bring this up when the "ipad is useless" conversation comes up. it usually leaves people with blank stares, while they think it over. but in 5 (or more) years, what student is going to be carrying around a big stack of books? especially when we've got the technology to avoid it? i honestly can't wait for this and am disappointed that i am too old to be a part of this. i mean, i wish i was a young kid going to school with everything electronic. oh well. :D

one thing comes in my mind that if ipad replaces textbook then how are we going to give it to teachers for corrections. That means we have to have different ipads for diff subjects :|

That's kind of silly. Why would you give the entire iPad to your professor/teacher, when you can simply use which ever 'universal' app the school or class is using to send the electronic version of your notes or test to them ? This can even be done in a pool, so that all the student's things are sent in at once and not just trickle in. The professor could set up a deadline/cutoff date and time when all things must be sent in from the app or e mail, and then everything can be reviewed and sent back in a batch rather than one by one.

Totally efficient ! Now if they can pull an app off like this for educators and students etc.. I'd be VERY impressed and cease to call the iPad "only an over sized iPod Touch". If useful apps such as what I'm thinking of can be made, it would truly differentiate the iPad from the iPod Touch. I do hope it can be pulled off.

Furthermore... Now I TOTALLY understand why Apple wouldn't want to allow porn apps. If the iPad is to take off as a device which can replace school books in institutions such as Saint Catherine's, then obviously you can't very well have it both ways. But if the iPad fails to achieve university worthy status, then I'm sure Apple will have no problems in bringing on the porn. It's an interesting dichotomy we're looking at. On the one hand, Apple has an image to uphold, while also trying to maintain functionality and profit in the process. So I'm pretty sure there's a trade off somewhere.. For now, that compromise is to put porn aside, build a better, cleaner image and still make a profit by trying to bring iPad's to a very mainstream audience... aka, schools.

That kind of reminds me of the time at work where we caught a user carrying their monitor over to a different desk that already had equipment at it. When we asked what they were doing, their reply was.... "Well, I want to make sure that my icons and wallpaper are the same at the new desk".

iPad for the school is an excellent idea

Really the iPad is perfect for the times when my laptop is too heavy but my iPhone is too small, this is an excellent idea.
