Hi guys,

Been on my Macbook Pro for about two weeks now and I love it. It's a 15" i7 with the hi-res glossy display.

Right now I have several windows open in Chrome, each with several tabs, iTunes is playing a file, Word is running in space #2, and MAME OS X is populating its list. iStat shows CPU @ 71 and fans were approaching 3500 RPM. Also, the bottom of the laptop is pretty hot. The real kicker is that I'm using a Targus laptop rest with dual fans.

Is this heat/fan speed normal? These apps don't seem too demanding in the scheme of things so I'm concerned about the prospect of running more demanding apps like Final Cut or Photoshop CS5. Thanks for any suggestions!

Sounds about right ....I wouldn't be worried. How much flash on the sites that you have open in " several windows.....each with several tabs " Also open activity monitor and check your process to get a good idea of how much of a work out your giving your machine...

How many of your chrome tabs have any flash content playing... That explains most of it. The i7 will run hotter than the core 2, and if I've got flash stuff up, 60C-65C is about right, if it's a flash movie, 70C isn't uncommon.

When I first switched I always checked my temps and fan speeds and was worried about heat too but it was all for nothing. You macbook will let you know if it gets too hot, so i'd say you are fine
