Yea, gotta love it. It took out half of my dad's campus. The other half uses OS X and there are a few 7 adopters.

Once again proves one of the biggest problems with antivirus software is the software!

I am more shocked it was not Norton! I have had to fix some Windows systems where a version of Norton messed up Windows, even Broke Winsock so no internet (Norton Internet Security).

Way back I used to run Norton but got fed up with increasing bugs after Norton sold out to Symantec and went to McAfee. It then started to get more bloated and sucking my CPU down when I needed to do work, so went to Antivir and never looked back.

Amen to that!

And this is only one ' event ' that makes the headlines.

In their quest to try and capture all malware, the software has to be more aggresive than ever, and has hooks into al lot of area"s of the OS.
For a long time now, the methodology of searching malware has not evolved and is building on something that is 10+ years old.
This creates a difficult-to-maintain piece of software.

I am surprised that there still is a need for this type of software .... is somebody actually progressing on writing ' secure code '.
Buffer overflows have been around since the sixties and we still haven't got around that. ( Just 1 example )
Testing for negative results is not human nature, so we don't do that either.

Anyway, I hope some of the vendors will re-think their strategy towards host protection soon.

Cheers ... McBie

It seems using ipads for all their basic information needs (as some hospitals want to do) is looking like a better and better option.

Too many...
I have always found it funny how you need a program to run another program so it won't get messed up(anti-virus/etc for MS). Someone should create a virus that would make MS running PC' implode and disappear!
