.avi videos on mac os X

how do i get an avi video to play on my mac with os x? it wont let me choose windows media player to play them, i downloaded divx player adn that didnt work?

Might work if you download something called VLC Media Player for OS X.

QuickTime Pro plays it as well no? I have the upgraded version and it plays just about everything.

You probably need the divx, xvid, or ac3 codecs .. I think Divx has an issue with 10.4 which they are working on

i find quictime is pretty bad for video and you have to pay £20 to get fullscreen, so go for VLC, its brilliant and free!(i think, downloaded form limewire :) )
