Applecare mainly covers manufacturing defects. It does not cover laptop batteries...or any sort of accidental damage such as dropping, running it over with a car, spilling beverages on it, etc.

If your Mac has a seizure in the 13th month of ownership, AppleCare is worth the cost, or even in the 36th month. If it doesn't, you've only paid for peace of mind.

Rule of thumb: laptops and Minis, buy it. Other desktops, don't.

Also, how often would you replace it anyway?

Personally, I think its work it, I had only had my Macbook for about a year and a half, and the Processor Fan started to make some odd noises... Went into the apple store, and they replaced it under the applecare!
