Here is a list of all the non apple things I know that are named I something:

i1 (New mororola smart phone)
i5
i7
ibeatblaxx (MP3 player)
iflow (A concept by hyundai)
igeneration (a term refering to GenZ and very late GenY people)
igoogle
ipaq
i robot (movie)
iseries (by IBM)
isnack 2.0 (name later changed though)

I'm sure there is a heap more things. And if you know any more feel free to list them. I'd really like to make my list as long as possible.

But why is everyone copying Apple with the i. Well not everyone but a lot of people are now days. What's the go with it?

Everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. Apples "i" products are pretty hot so associating with them gets your product attention. I'm not sure if the Intel CPUs are really doing that too but who knows...

The iPaq was released April 2000, so technically it was before the whole "i" thing caught on with the ubiquity of the iPod a few years later.

I had one of those. My Newton croaked and I got an iPAQ 3800. Still runs even though I need duct tape to hold on the external battery.

Agreed. But the imac was first released May 1998. So that predates both the ipaq and the ipod. I agree the whole i thing was much popular later though.

Goes back to the iMac, designed in 1996/97, commercially available from 1998 released as an internet tool where the i comes from, and later the eMac, e for ethernet. Others have just latched on to a marketing theme.

Forgot about that one! I still own my iPaq in fact. Works great but I am sure battery will hold very little charge after all this time. After getting the iPhone the iPaq just sits in it's dock.
