Itunes to Front Row

I have an external Hard Drive plugged into my Mac Mini and on the external have loads of music....I have tried altering the setting in the Itunes preference setting (itunes media folder location) thinking prog's such as Front Row would then be able to find the music.....No such luck, so I am wondering what I need to do exactly to have Itunes use the external hard drive thus allowing easy play back options ?
