After using my Mac Mini for a year or so along with my Linux PC, I finally wholly switched over to the Mac by buying a new 27" i7 iMac with 4GB of memory and 1TB of HDD. Compared to my little 1.83 Ghz Mini, this iMac just screams..and I'm not fighting the wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse too much..:)

I did have a quick question about memory. If I were to buy another 4GB of RAM and plug it in, will the full 8GB be detected without needing to boot explicitly into 64-bit mode?

Regards

yes, the mac will be able to see and use the full 8 gig

Unlike on windows, even a 32 bit version of OSX can address 32 gig because each application that is 32 bit can have 4 gig.

Of course 64 bit apps can run on the 32 bit OSX kernal in 64 bit mode, its just that a 64 bit OSX kernal is paving the way for the future when todays generous 32 gig of RAM will seem small
