• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Once an imovie has been made and burned to DVD, is it possible to take that DVD to another computer, import that imovie from that DVD and do further editing in imovie?

Assuming the movie burned to DVD means you ran the video through authoring software like iDVD to create menus and such, then you will need to rip the footage off the DVD using a tool like Handbrake (free: HandBrake ) to create a .mp4 and import that into iMovie to edit.

It will work, but you'd be better off exporting the video from iMovie as a high quality, low compression video (especially if your original was HD) to edit (using the more advanced exporting features to export as a quicktime movie) as the ripping from the DVD will degrade the quality a little bit (just as creating the DVD probably degraded the quality a little bit, so technically you'll have 2 degrades in quality - one in creating the DVD and one in ripping the footage off the dvd)

Good luck!
